Obituary of Rita A. Walker

Rita A. Walker Birth Date/Age: May 21, 1917 - 92 Years of Age Home City/State: Menlo Park, California Date of Death: Friday, November 20, 2009 Place of Death: Reno, Nevada Life in Brief: Rita Walker died in Reno, Nevada after a long illness. She was born in 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Avon Lake HS and Mount Sinai School of Nursing. She married in 1940. Menlo Park, California has been her home since 1950. She worked at Palo Alto Hospital for 5 years. Church of the Nativity was her parish for over 55 years. She was a very spirited parishioner and participated in many services and activities. She was a member of several organizations including Columbian Ladies, YLI, and AARP. She was an active member of Menlo Park's Neighborhood Center for over 14 years. She worked on the Election Board for over 40 years and their home garage served as a voting place. She and her husband were licensed foster parents for the county of San Mateo for almost 20 years. She had several hobbies including wool rug making, crocheting, playing cards, baking, and canning. She also was well traveled, world wide. Surviving: She is survived by her daughter Rita Boyd and son Robert Walker. 5 grandchildren David Boyd, Christina LaCombe, Rob Walker, Kimberly Boyd and Christopher Walker. 2 step-grandchildren Tanya Wagner, and Andre Wagner. 5 great grandchildren Sarah Boyd, Isabel Walker, Tristan Walker, Jordyn LaCombe, and Makayla Walker. 2 step-grandchildren Natalia Wagner and Mary Jane Wagner. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and brother-in-law Bob Zaebst. Her parents, Oliva and Joseph Schneider, 4 sisters, 2 brothers and her husband of 38 years, Louis Walker, preceded her in death. Services: Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, December 4, 2009 from 3PM to 8PM followed by the Rosary at 7PM, Spangler's Mortuary, 650 Live Oak Ave., Menlo Park, CA. Funeral Mass and Burial will take place at Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, 210 Oak Grove Ave., Menlo Park, CA. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2PM with internment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1100 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park, CA. A reception for family and friends will take place immediately after internment services at Church of the Nativity parish hall. In-lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be sent to the American Heart Association.
