Yim Fun Gee, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at Greenhaven Healthcare Center in
Sacramento, California at the age of 88.
Born on January 30, 1937, in Guangzhou, China, Yim was the youngest of four children. Growing up in China, he developed a love for learning and mastered three dialects – Cantonese, Mandarin, and Taishanese – a skill that reflected both his intelligence and adaptability.
After immigrating to the United States, Yim built a remarkable life rooted in hard work, intellect, and devotion to family. He began his professional career with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) from 1963 to 1979, where he served as a Registered Professional Engineer with expertise in design, construction, traffic operations, and program management. He later joined the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) from 1980 to 1997, applying his technical expertise to utility rate-making in water and electric services, natural gas safety, and customer relations. After more than three decades of public service, he retired in 1997.
Outside of his professional achievements, Yim was a passionate table tennis enthusiast. A long-time member of USA Table Tennis, he coached his twin daughters, Lisa and Diana during their junior years and worked closely with officials at various international sporting events. His dedication played a vital role in their journeys to represent the United States at the the World Championships, Pan American Games, and Olympic Games.
Yim's curiosity and zest for life extended far beyond his career and coaching. He was an avid traveler, exploring the world with his wife and family, always eager to experience new cultures and cuisines. He was also a thoughtful and disciplined investor, with a strong interest in the stock market and real estate, pursuits that reflected his analytical mind and lifelong love of learning.
His hobbies included Tai Chi, backyard landscaping, and home remodeling projects. He enjoyed engaging in deep, often humorous intellectual conversations, sharing countless anecdotes, jokes, and short stories that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Yim is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth L. Gee; loving daughters, Lisa K. Gee Soto, and Diana K. Gee; cherished grandchildren, Ethan Soto, Ivan Soto, and Aidan McDonnell; and his faithful dog, Snowy, who brought him daily companionship and comfort.
Yim will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos, California 94024. Family and friends are welcome to come to his Graveside Burial on Monday, October 27 at 2pm.
His warmth, humor, and wisdom will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
