Xuqi (Steven) Song, aged 60, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in China on July 29, 1965, Steven was the middle child of Jiacheng Song and Meiyu Zhao. He grew up in the coastal city of Longkou with his brothers, Xuyan and Xuheng.

After earning his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Steven worked as a process engineer in Japan for 8 years. He later moved to Canada, where he spent 5 years as a research scientist at the University of British Columbia and the University of Western Ontario. He eventually settled in the Bay Area, where he worked at Chevron as a Principal Researcher for the past 20 years.

Outside of his professional life, Steven was a devoted family man. He enjoyed planting fruit trees, working on home improvement projects, practicing his golf swing at the local driving range, and watching sumo tournaments. He also cherished time spent with friends playing card games, sharing laughter and friendly competition. He had a deep appreciation for numbers, seen in his work on computational fluid dynamics simulations, his careful management of the family budget through intricate spreadsheets, and his enjoyment of Sudoku puzzles in his free time. He will be greatly missed by his friends, colleagues, classmates, and all who knew him.

Steven is survived by his wife Jing Jiang, and his son Nam Song.

A funeral service will be held on April 15, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Spangler Mortuary in Sunnyvale, CA. A celebration of life reception will follow on May 9, 2026, at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church.
