Obituary of Walker Theodore Fisher
Walker Fisher died October 25, 2012, at the age of 22, after fighting debilitating illness most of his adult life. He suffered a great deal in his short life, but we hope and believe he is at peace. In his heart, Walker loved music and played it with uncanny passion and skill, finding joy in the respite of its beauty. He composed, played, and listened with an intensity that seemed to flow out of a deep creative maelstrom, melding many rhythms, voices, ideas, and changes in dense and surprising ways. He was never more happy than with a guitar in his hands, head bent low over the strings, hearing something no one else could ever hear. We loved him for his sense of humor as he mimicked his parents and sister, and many others. His playfulness could never be held down long, and he found humor even in his darkest moments, perfectly capturing the odd inflection of someone's voice or the absurd look we all take on at times. His compassion showed through in his willingness to help others and share what he could share, especially the gift of his music and the voice of beauty within him. We cherish that beauty now and know it will always be part of our lives. We have scheduled an informal memorial service to celebrate Walker's life at 10:00 am Saturday, November 10, at the Spangler Mortuary at 399 South San Antonio Road in Los Altos. All are invited afterward to our home (new location) at 1563 Walnut Drive in Palo Alto for refreshments. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Walker's name to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, http://www.namisantaclara.org/form/namidonationform.html or by mail to 2010 N. First Street, Suite 530, San Jose, CA 95131.
