Wai, born on March 20, 1961, in the vibrant city of Hong Kong, peacefully departed this world on October 23, 2026, at Washington Hospital in Fremont. He leaves behind a legacy of love, marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his impressive career, and the kindness and warmth that made him beloved among friends and family alike.

Wai's journey began in Hong Kong, where his parents, Piu Ho and Lai-Chan Yung, instilled in him the values of hard work and generosity. These values guided him throughout his life and were evident in his many accomplishments. He pursued higher education with zeal, earning a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988.

His professional life was distinguished by his several roles as a software engineer, initially at Cadence Design Systems for 22 fruitful years, and later at Exponent Partners, where he worked from 2010 until his retirement in 2025. Throughout his career, Wai was known not only for his smartness but also for his warm smile that lit up every room he entered.

On July 2, 1994, Wai married the love of his life, Yaling Lin, in California. Their union was a testament to enduring love and companionship, as they spent 32 beautiful years together. Yaling, his devoted wife, survives him, cherishing the memories of their life together.

Wai's generosity and kindness were as much a part of him as his professional accomplishments. He was a man who opened his heart to those around him, making everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Washington Hospital in Fremont and Sutter Health in Fremont for the compassionate care they provided during his final days.

A memorial service to honor Wai’s life will be held on November 8, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Spangler Mortuaries, located at 399 S San Antonio Rd, Los Altos, CA 94022. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating the life of a remarkable man whose memory will forever be cherished.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in Wai's memory. This gesture will honor his spirit of kindness and his wish to contribute to a cause close to his heart.

Wai will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and intellectual brilliance will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
