Stanley R. Salisbury

In loving memory of Stanley R. Salisbury, 85, who passed away from heart complications on December 27, 2017. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Stan is predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy, and his parents Lawrence D. and Dorothy F. Salisbury. Stan is survived by his sons Michael T. and his wife Lea Ann, Patrick P. and his wife Gigi, Daniel F. and his wife Mae-Ann, Andrew J. and his wife Donna, and Lawrence J. and his wife Carrie, and daughter Kathleen M. Scalise and her husband Samuel; as well as his good friend Gayle Morrison. Stan has sixteen grandchildren: Lauren, Emma, Sean, Matthew, Julia, William, Gabriel, Paige, Nicholas, and Sarah Salisbury, Jessica Russell, Karina and Dominic Scalise, and Ethan Lee. Stan is predeceased by two grandsons, Drew and Dylan Salisbury. Stan has three great-grandsons, Ian Trevor and Eben Tyler Salisbury, and Theodore Roger Russell. Stan is also survived by his brother, Charles Salisbury and his wife Barbara; and sister Mary S. (Susie) Gross and her husband Roger and their family.

Stan graduated from Marquette University in 1955 with a B.S. Magna Cum Laude in Physics and completed his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Wisconsin in 1962. He served as a Research Nuclear Physicist for 35 years with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Palo Alto, California. He lived in Mountain View, California for 55 years. Stan was known for his exceptionally dedicated care of his family; contributions to the field of physics including several patents, numerous publications and many tributes to his work; and his extensive knowledge of all the sciences.

Stan was known by his children as a brilliantly unique father, who was always an anchor of support and enormous love for all. He was the iconic Renaissance man, erudite on many issues including philosophy and current events, a master craftsman in many trades, including woodworking, metallurgy, leatherworking, electronics, and photography. He had many interests including extensive reading, collecting including heritage tools, books and wine, exploring family genealogy, and travel. His favorite destination in the world was Alaska, which he visited many times with family and friends.

After losing his beloved wife, he founded a bereavement support group at St. Joseph's Church of Mountain View, and was active in assisting the elderly and serving in leadership roles for the senior community.

A memorial and funeral service will be held at10 a.m.onSaturday, January 6, at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos, followed by areception and luncheon to which all are invited to celebrate Stan's life,noon-3 pm,Saturday, Jan. 6, atTao Tao Cafe,175 S Murphy Ave,Sunnyvale, CA 94086.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent toSt. Joseph's Church in Mountain View.
