Obituary

Dr. Sheng Chi Wang, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, left his earthly body on April 18, 2024. He was 85 years old.

Born in 1938, Dr. Wang grew up in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Friends and family from home called him "Yoshi", and his high school and medical school friends nicknamed him "Lion" (Lí-òn). He graduated from Kaohsiung Medical School and completed a medical residency. He met and married his wife, Chien Hui Wang, in January 1966. In 1968, he left for the USA, setting out to build a new life of opportunity, abundance and prosperity, for himself and his budding family. With nothing more than a suitcase and a few hundred dollars in his pocket, he landed in New York to a new culture and language. He completed a 1 year rotating internship (in OB/GYN and surgery) at Fordham Hospital, located in the Bronx. During this time, he lived in the on-call room at the hospital, working 24 hour shifts every other day. The following year, he was able to send for his wife and daughter in Taiwan to join him in the States. He then completed another 2 years of residency in family medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville, PA. After this, he returned to New York in 1971 to complete a four year pathology residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, NY. Once completed, he moved his growing family to Hermitage, PA in 1975, where he lived and worked the next 30+ years as a pathologist at Sharon General Hospital in Sharon, PA. He retired in 2007.

After retiring, Dr. Wang and his wife moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 2009 to San Pablo, CA, where they could enjoy retirement and spend time with all of their children and grandchildren. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Chien-Hui. "Buppee" is the cherished father of his four daughters, Yea-Yunn (Simon), Lisa, Joy (Jerry), and Stephanie (Ryan). He is the beloved "Agong" to his 6 grandchildren: Lucius, Gigi, Phoebe, Alex, Remy, and Lila.

He will always be remembered for his dedication, strength, loyalty, unwavering conscience and will, and sharp acuity. His mind was ever so robust and sharp, even to the last. He had a strong sense of duty, responsibility, fairness, and work ethic, all of which he regarded with great care. He loved most eating delicious food, (particularly satisfying his sweet tooth!), playing the stock market, and being with family. Other interests throughout his life included poetry, photography, and collecting stamps and coins. He also enjoyed playing Chinese chess with his grandson Alex, listening to music (classical, Sarah Brightman, Phantom of the Opera), watching Shark Tank, following current events, and vacationing on cruises. He was proudly patriotic and loved both his adopted country of the USA, as well as his native country of Taiwan. His laughter will always be fondly remembered: his was a silent laugh that was expressed through his whole body, which would shake with laughter while he would slap his knee.

His greatest pride and joy was his family, to which he devoted his entire life. They will always carry him in their hearts.
