Obituary

RODNEY THOMAS GEIMAN

May 20, 1937 - February 15, 2026

Rod Geiman died peacefully the day after Valentine’s Day with his loving wife by his side. He was 88 years old. Rod had bravely survived many years of health challenges by never accepting an unfavorable diagnosis. He was stubborn like that. He faced the world with unusual positivity. Nothing seemed to get him down.

Rod was born and raised in Boston, MA. As a teenager, he mowed lawns, shoveled snow, was a busboy and gas station attendant. That instilled in him an appreciation for hard work and the importance of dependability and an honest work ethic, traits that continued throughout his life.

In 1955 the family moved to California. Rod attended The University of the Pacific in Stockton where he met the love of his life, Janet Barron. They married in June 1960. A few months later, Rod enlisted in the Air Force and began his stint in the Medical Unit of the Air Force Reserves, doing his weekend duty in the emergency room at Stanford Hospital.

The couple bought a home in Sunnyvale where they welcomed three sons before moving to their family home in Saratoga. By then Rod was owner/president of Micropoint, Inc., a manufacturer of ballpoint pens and markers. Rod loved being a dad and jumped at every opportunity to be with his sons. He coached both Little League and soccer. He took his family snow/water skiing, camping and on many trips around the country. They all loved regular visits to their cabin in the Sierras.

Rod was active in the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church. While playing tennis with the minister one day an idea formed that eventually led to the building of Life’s Garden, a 208-unit independent living facility for seniors in Sunnyvale. That mission was close to his heart. Rod was the founder and president of the board from its inception through the completion and renting of the units.

As empty nesters, Rod and Janet moved to Los Altos where Rod enjoyed working in the yard and in his vegetable garden. He loved collecting small antiques and couldn't pass up a flea market or a yard sale. One of his joys was playing mahjong. He taught the beginners class at the Senior Center for the Los Altos Recreation Department and loved his weekly game with special friends.

He was an early riser accomplishing much before dawn. He was a fixer too. No tradesman was ever called unless he tried to fix the problem first. Rod loved people and his close friendships spanned several decades. He would do anything for anyone who needed help. People remember his optimism, sense of humor and genuine kindness. He was a true gentleman.

Rod is deeply missed and survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, his sons and daughters- in-law Rob, Greg (Robin) and Doug (Jenni) and granddaughters Rachel and Gwen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Quentin and Anne Geiman, his sister Carolyn, and Rob’s wife Sheila. His life celebration is private, but for those wishing to acknowledge Rod’s life, please consider donating to a favorite charity. He believed that any cause close to the heart is worthy.
