Obituary

Robert "Bob" Ulate passed away peacefully on February 28th, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. A cherished resident of Santa Clara for over fifty years, Bob devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family and community, nurturing relationships as rich and vibrant as the orchards he grew up around in Sunnyvale, CA.

Born in Palo Alto and raised in Sunnyvale, Bob witnessed the remarkable transformation of Santa Clara County from lush orchards to a bustling tech hub. He often reminisced about his childhood adventures, running through the orchards and savoring their fruit. These simple joys laid the foundation for a life filled with appreciation and wonder.

Bob was a dedicated member of the Sunnyvale School District for 37 years. His career began as a custodian, where his dedication to work quickly proved he was ready for more responsibility within the district. His transition to a bus driver brought immense joy to countless elementary students, who were lucky enough to be on his route and were greeted each day with his warm smile and playful Donald Duck voice—a testament to his kind-hearted nature and ability to spread happiness. Later, as a mechanic, Bob not only showcased his technical skills but also forged deep, lasting friendships with his incredible team. His warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication touched the lives of everyone he worked with.

Family was the cornerstone of Bob's life. He embraced every moment with them, creating memories full of joy and laughter. His infectious spirit made him the heart of any gathering, as friends and neighbors were naturally drawn to his warmth and sincerity. Bob was a pillar of his community, always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear.

Later in life, Bob found love with his wife, Gail, with whom he shared a vibrant and active life. Together, they embarked on adventures across the country, accompanied by their children, grandchildren, and friends. He loved road trips, with one of his favorite destinations being Albion, where he would RV with close friends, creating cherished memories by the coast. His children fondly remember grand adventures driving all the way to Baja California and Vancouver, Canada, camping in the camper pulled by their dad's green Chevy truck.

Bob leaves behind a loving family: his devoted wife Gail; his son, Rick; his daughter, Teresa; three stepdaughters; six grandchildren; two brothers; a sister; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. His spirit now rests with Jesus, yet his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Bob's presence in our lives was a blessing, and his love will always be with us. We will cherish his memory forever. Love you always, Bob.
