Obituary of Robert James Kankel

Robert James Kankel Jr., known as Jim by family and friends, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2014 after a 10 year battle with Parkinson's. Jim was 74 years old. Born in San Jose on February 20, 1940 to Robert James Kankel Sr. and Elva Claire, he spend his childhood in Los Altos. Soon after marrying, he and his wife Priscilla moved to Milpitas - their home for the past 46 years. A loving husband, wonderful father, faithful big brother, and special Papa to his ten grandchildren - Jim was adored by his family. Friends and family referred to him as a 'gentle giant' and he was highly regarded as a man of integrity that loved the Lord. Those waiting to join him someday in Heaven are: his wife of 53 years, Priscilla Kankel, his two brothers - Barry Donald and Stephan Craig, his three children and their spouses - Robert James III (Kimberlee) Kankel, Suzanne (Scott) Snowden, and Kathleen (Dan) Montano. ALso his 10 beautiful grandchildren are: Courtney, Rhys, Daniel, R.J., Annalise, Ryan, jacob, Matthew, Jarred, and Holly. Though our hearts are heavy because we miss his kind and gentle spirit, our comfort comes knowing he has found peace. A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Church of Milpitas, 1000 S. Park Victoria Dr. on Saturday, May 24th at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Christ Community Church of Milpitas, Mission's Department - a program Jim strongly supported.
