Obituary of Rita Ann Hughes

Passed away peacefully on February 22, 2011 in Los Altos and joined her husband, John. She is survived by sons John F., Jr.; William C. and his wife Donna; Kenneth M.; Brian E. and his wife Molly; a daughter, Marie Chan and her husband Frank; grandchildren Lisa, Jack, Ryan and Sarah Hughes, Meagan and Ashley Chan. Rita was Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 19, 1920, to William and Ann Jackson. In 1942, she graduated with a degree in Home Economics from St. Joseph's College in New York. Rita had resided in Los Altos Hills and Los Altos since 1967. Through out her years in California, Rita participated in the Los Altos Newcomers Club, the Bay Hills Club, the Woman's Club of Los Altos, and a as volunteer for CAR. As a member of the Los Altos Golf and County Club, she was active in the Ladies Nine-Hole Group and Bridge Club. She was also a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Rita was a loving and dedicated friend to many �"always ready with a smile that could truly "light up a room!" Being surrounded by her complete family was her greatest joy. Her generous and indomitable spirit will be truly missed by all. A Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday, February 25, at Spangler Mortuary, 399 South San Antonio Road, Los Altos. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 330 Distel Circle, Suite A, Los Altos, CA 94022.
