Richard Eric
Maestas
December 9, 1941 – April 24, 2026
Richard E. Maestas passed away on April 24, 2026, at home, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. The eldest of six children, Richard was born in Alamosa, Colorado, and raised on a small farm in Gooding, Idaho. His parents, Richard and Fede, were devout Catholics and had great plans for him to become a priest. Richard, or Dick as he was lovingly known, chose a different path for himself.
Richard married his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna Marie Maestas (Grant), on August 25, 1962. In the spring of 1965, Richard graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics. Soon thereafter, the couple moved to Sunnyvale, California, where Richard accepted a job with Lockheed Martin. Richard proudly worked at Lockheed as a Program Manager for 34 years. After a short two-year move to Virginia in 1976, Richard and Marie returned to California, ultimately settling in Los Altos.
It is here that they would raise their daughter, Kristin, and where he would be promoted to Grandpa. If he wasn’t shuttling his granddaughter Sierra to one of her activities, Richard could be found at one of his favorite local golf courses. Despite encountering the occasional sand trap, he found great joy in hitting the links, spending time with his granddaughter and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Maestas; daughter, Kristin Maestas; granddaughter, Sierra Maestas-Gach and her husband, Eric Gach; and great-grandchildren, Bennett and Layne. In addition, he is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Guy and Karen Maestas of San Miguel, Mexico; Carl and Lynn Maestas of Boise, Idaho; Liz and Mitch Johnson of Pocatello, Idaho; Marian Maestas of Gooding, Idaho; and Kenny and Keri Maestas of Clarkston, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Idaho State University’s College of Arts and Letters, where Richard was honored to serve as a member of the Dean's Advisory Board for 10 years. Checks may be mailed directly to the Office of Advancement; memo: In memory of Dick Maestas for CAL student scholarships. Go Bengals!
