It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Raymond McIntyre, who left us on Thursday January 29th. He was a cherished husband, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, a man of exemplary faith, and loyal friend to many.
Born on May 5, 1930 in India, Ray lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering integrity. He was known for his gentle spirit, his sense of humor, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. His wisdom and compassion touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ray earned a bachelors from London University and a master's from Stanford University in electrical engineering. He joined Varian in the UK in 1963, emigrated with his family to the USA in 1965 and was a one of several key pioneers in the development of equipment for cancer treatment. His career at Varian spanned 43 years and he is named in fifteen patents with ten assigned to Varian Associates and five in application status.
He loved to play and watch tennis attending both Wimbledon while living in England and most recently attending the US Open in 2019 and was affectionately referred to by family and friends as "Rocket Ray" due to his formidable serve.
He is survived by his children, Andrew (Karen), David (Kellie), Catherine (Don), Helen (Steve), Elizabeth, Frances (Tim), and Michael (Sarah) along with sixteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anne and grandsons, Ryan and Gavin.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 13 at 10am at Saint Nicholas church in Los Altos followed by a celebration of life where family and dear friends will gather to honor and celebrate his remarkable life.
His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sutter Health Hospice Sutter health Hospice Donation in remembrance of Raymond McIntyre.
Rest in peace, Dad. You will always be missed and never forgotten.
