Obituary of Paula Marie Mezak

Paula Marie Mezak, 55 , passed away Thursday July 5, 2012. She was born in December 1956 in Jersey City, NJ to Alfred and Joan (Adlon) Fraraccio. She married Steve Mezak February 1983 in Sunnyvale, CA. Paula was born and raised in Brick, NJ and graduated from Monsignor Donovan High School in Toms River, NJ. She then graduated from College of New Rochelle in 1979 with a BA in French. Paula met her husband Steve while singing with the CNR Glee Club at a concert in Worcester, MA. Paula was a home maker and loving mother of five children. Her quiet and deep spirituality was reflected in her everyday actions and concern for friends and family. Paula contracted Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion during a childhood tonsillectomy, leading to a lifelong interest in health and nutrition for herself and her family. Paula loved to cook and enjoyed food to the fullest. Unfortunately her liver disease quietly became liver cancer, which was untreatable when finally discovered just a few weeks prior to her death. She passed after spending less than a week in excellent hospice care at Sutter Lakeside Hospital surrounded by her husband, children, sister Joanne, brother Leo and Ruthie her beloved chocolate Labrador Retriever. She is survived by Steve Mezak, Kelseyville, CA; sons Charlie, Nicholas, Timothy and Mark in CA; daughter Rachel in FL; sisters Joanne Benedict in IN, Antoinette Navarre in FL; brothers John and Peter in NJ and Leo in FL; parents Alfred and Joan Fraraccio in NJ. A viewing will be held Tuesday, July 10th at 6pm at the Church of the Resurrection, 735 Cascade Drive, Sunnyvale, CA. followed by a vigil service at 7pm. A second viewing will take place on Wednesday, July 11 at 9:15am at Church of the Resurrection before the Funeral Mass at 10am. Internment will take place in the Skylawn Memorial Park.
