Obituary

Paul Pao-Ning Yang, son of Hsueh-Su Yang and Keng Yuansan Yang, died on August 17, 2022 in his home in Las Vegas at the age of 68, with his two daughters by his side. He was a devoted son, beloved father/ Baba, cherished grandfather/ Gong gong, and a loyal friend to many. He is survived by his two daughters, Jade Kuenyin Yang and Tiffany Kuenmei Yang, and his two granddaughters June Yang Ji-Lian Reagin and Cecile Yang Ji-Shan Reagin.

Paul was born in Tainan, Taiwan on March 9, 1954. Soon after, his family moved to Taipei, where he would attend Tsai Hsing elementary school and meet the first of his many life-long friends. After graduating at the top of his high school class — with the #1 chemistry score in the country — Paul was admitted to National Taiwan University Department of Electrical Engineering, proving himself to be an exceptional student. His continued pursuit to study at the highest levels of academia brought him to the United States, where he completed his masters and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

While at Stanford, he met Sherry Hsin-Ling Fan at a school-sponsored student party. The two married in 1979, and welcomed their first child Jade in 1981 and their second child Tiffany in 1984. The couple divorced in 1987, whereafter Paul would split time and care for his two daughters, as well as take them on countless trips and vacations to some of his favorite places including Hawaii, Taiwan, Disneyland, Orlando, Washington DC, New York, and Puerto Rico.

Almost always flying "the friendly skies," Paul was a world traveler, elite status frequent flyer, and an amateur pilot. In 2019 he reached 3 Million Miler status with United Airlines and took pride and delight in this achievement. He flew for work, leisure, and sometimes no other reason except just to fly. Work would take him to different parts of the world, as he formed and managed a number of innovative telecommunication companies in both Silicon Valley and Taipei. He was a widely respected professional and leader in the industry.

Paul lived his life just as he wanted. He had his own unique mix of interests, habits, and hobbies, centering relaxation and enjoyment. He loved to eat and travel, as well as listen to popular music, watch action movies, and karaoke. The rigor of his logical brain combined with his laidback, worry-free demeanor made Paul a gentle genius of sorts, a true "one-of-a-kind."

In 1996 Paul moved to Taipei to be with and care for his aging parents, both of whom lived well into their 90's. After the passing of his parents, he came back to the States to be closer to his own children, settling down in Las Vegas where good food and 24-hr entertainment abound. However, no trip was too far and no schedule too tight to prioritize and make time for his children, grandchildren, and vast, long-standing community of friends that became his extended family. He will be missed, loved, and remembered with fondness, a smile, and preferably a scoop of macadamia nuts in one hand and a tall Mai Tai in the other.

To honor and celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held on September 3, 2022 at 9am at Spangler Mortuary in Los Altos, with a banquet lunch to follow. If you would like to access a livestream link of the service please click the "watch video" link, and enter PIN # 946-802
