Obituary of Paul Richard Hellstrom
Our dear and beloved father Paul Richard Hellstrom passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 6, 2016 in Mountain View, California. Paul was an accomplished builder who learned the business from his older brothers. He had exceptional skills in carpentry and stone masonry and could fix, repair or build about anything. He managed many construction projects through the years and passed down his love of construction and problem solving to his sons. He built gorgeous stone fireplaces that were a great pride to him including the one in the family home which he remodeled. He loved to cook and grill, and shared this compassion with his daughter who had her own restaurant. The pride of his life were his three children and five grandchildren: Charlie, Sara, Ben, Noah and Eli. In his younger days he loved to golf and fish and car camp with his family. Trips to Southern Utah and Arches National Park were his favorite. In later years he helped Scott and Julie raise and watch over his grandkids whom he dearly loved. He will be remembered for his love and kindness to family and animals, especially the family dogs and would spend hours playing ball with Emma who misses dad a lot. Paul loved playing in black jack tournaments with his sisters, attending horse races, live sporting events, University of Utah football and basketball, SF 49ers, and his favorite baseball team the SF Giants. Many times when we were young he loaded us kids into the car and we headed for Arizona to watch the Utah Utes play and visit relatives, and also to escape the cold Utah winter for a few days. He will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered for his wit, humor and endless laughter. He was born May 25, 1936 to Anthon and Vera (Armstrong) Hellstrom in Sandy, Utah. Married Carolyn Erickson (later divorced). He is survived by his three children, Scott (Julie Williams) of Santa Clara, Ca, Mark (Elizabeth Bader) of Boise, Idaho, and Paula (Thomas Davies) of Lafayette, Ca, brother Gordon of Holladay, Ut, sisters Vera Morgan of Coronado, Ca and Mary Minnig of Phoenix, Az. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life to be held on April 16, 2016 at 1 pm at the First Unitarian Church, 569 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
