Obituary of Norene Anne Venturi Scholz
Norene Anne Venturi Scholz, a long time resident of Palo Alto, went home to God on May 3, 2016. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Norene, a third generation San Franciscan, was born November 21, 1932 to parents Anne Mealy Venturi and Armando John Venturi. She attended St. Emydius Grammar School and Presentation High School, graduating in 1950.
After graduation she worked as a secretary in San Francisco for a number of years until 1957 when she started flying as a Hostess for Trans World Airlines. Also in 1957, she was introduced to the love of her life, Richard Scholz, by mutual friends. In their early conversations, they realized that they had actually met before, in second grade at St. Emydius (Richard's family had lived in SF at that time). They were married at St. Thomas More Church in San Francisco on October 18, 1958 and started married life in the south bay, eventually moving to Palo Alto in 1962
Norene was an active volunteer in her parish and children's schools, as well as the Palo Alto Auxiliary to the Children's Hospital at Stanford. She was president of the Auxiliary in 1978. She loved to travel, play bridge and was a wonderful chef and hostess, often entertaining family and friends in her home.
Norene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard Scholz of Palo Alto, her daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Scott La Rue of Menlo Park, her son and daughter-in-law Rick and Jeanette Scholz of Mountain View, grandchildren Rob La Rue, Kelly La Rue, Carley Scholz, Sam Scholz, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sister Anne Jewel.
Family and friends are invited to the Visitation and Rosary Sunday, May 8th, 5pm to 7pm at Spangler Mortuary, 399 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos. A Funeral Mass, with a reception immediately following, will be said Monday, May 9th at 10:00am at St. Albert the Great Church, 1095 Channing Ave., Palo Alto. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.
