Michael Leland Mowrey, age 76, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021.

He was born on December 22, 1944 to Vera Louise Mills in Long Beach, California. He was later adopted

by James Mowrey when they married. Michael graduated from Anaheim High School in 1962, then

attended Long Beach State University for 2 years. He then transferred to UC Berkeley to complete his

Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1966. While there, he met his wife, then Judy Means, and they

married in San Francisco in 1968. That same year, he completed his work for a Master's Degree in

English from San Francisco State University. The couple moved to Belridge Oil Lease and then to

Redding, California to work as teachers in local schools.

The couple next moved to Eugene, Oregon, where Michael attended law school. When he completed

schooling in 1976, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where Michael began practicing law and their

three children were born. In 1981, Michael was appointed to a judgeship in Josephine County, Oregon,

and served for two years.

In 1986, the family moved to Sunnyvale, California where they would live for the rest of his life. Most of

his professional career in California was spent with State Compensation Insurance Fund as a worker's

compensation attorney. Michael was known for his dry sense of humor, and you knew you were in when

he included you in his zingers.

Throughout his life, Michael's second great love was bicycling. He loved to research, plan, and complete

bike tours, including biking Mount Shasta and climbing the summit with his uncle Richard. He also

enjoyed biking the Selkirk Loop with Adventure Cycling, and solo trips exploring Eastern Oregon. Closerto home, he took full advantage of the bike lanes of Foothill Expressway. Michael also actively supported

his daughters' swim team, Sunnyvale Swim Club.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Mowrey, his daughters Marina Mowrey, Sascha Mowrey, and

Laura Johnson, his son-in-law Peter Johnson, his grandchildren Axel Johnson and Matilda Johnson, and

his brother Nicholas Mowrey. He was predeceased by his mother, Vera Jewell, his stepfather Robert

Jewell, his father James Mowrey II, and his brothers David Mowrey and James Mowrey III.
