Obituary of Michael Kelly MacKay

Michael Kelly MacKay, 57, of Los Altos, CA, formerly of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, with his beloved wife, Lena Madore, beside him following a courageous, dignified, and unflinching battle with a brain tumor. He is predeceased by his parents Elinor and Leslie MacKay. Mike is survived by his loving wife Lena Madore; sister-in-law Dawn Madore of Seattle, WA; brother-in-law Michael Madore and his wife Marilyn of Kennebunkport, ME; aunt Verleen Schilz of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; and cousins Gregory Schilz of San Rafael, CA, his wife Kim Kihara, and their daughter Miya; Jackie Nichols of Rancho Palo Verdes, CA, her husband Michael, and their son Bradley and daughter Jessica; Marilyn Bacon of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, her husband John, and their son Joey; and many dear friends. Michael began his career in the software industry at Xerox in Los Angeles, and he had a 30-year career working for multiple large and small companies and start-ups in Silicon Valley as a software executive before retiring in 2013. Although our hearts are heavy with the loss, we celebrate a life well lived by a truly special person whose memory will be treasured forever. Mike was a caring and devoted husband and friend. An accomplished musician, he loved playing guitar and listening to jazz and rock music. In his spare time, he loved taking walks, watching movies, and driving up and down the California coast with Lena. His strength, humanity, sense of humor, positive attitude, and determination are an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association at 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Suite 550, Chicago, IL 60631 in memory of Michael K. MacKay.
