Obituary of Max Harrison Bailey

Max Harrison Bailey Jr. peacefully passed away on March 26, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife Beverly and daughters Alison and Hilary. Max was born to Max Harrison Bailey Sr. and Gladys White Bailey on June 10, 1932 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Max grew up as the son of a Naval Officer and had the opportunity to live in many parts of our great country including Hawaii during 1941. Max himself gave service to his country in the armed services following his 1954 graduation from University of the Pacific.

On July 15, 1956 he married the love of his life and college sweetheart Beverly Jean Adams. Together they enjoyed 61 years of a loving marriage. They shared a love and dedication to the University where they met , serving on the Alumni Board of Directors for many years during the time in which Max was the President of the UOP Alumni Association. Together they traveled extensively throughout the world both with friends and as a couple.

They made Los Altos their home in 1970 and continue to be Los Altos residents to this day. Their union produced two daughters Alison Bailey Johnson and Hilary Bailey Brehaut. Additionally Max and his wife Beverly have been blessed with two loving son-in laws and five grandchildren. Max is survived by his wife Beverly Jean, his oldest daughter Alison, husband Eric Johnson, grandsons Max Reinhardt, William Harrison(wife Ayaka), Matthew Bailey and his youngest daughter Hilary, husband Jeff Brehaut, grandson Riley Harrison and granddaughter Natalie Bailey.

Family and friends were extremely important to Max. He will always be remembered as a dedicated, loving husband and father, a caring and trusted friend and a wise business associate. The twinkle in his bright blue eyes was the window to the loving, sentimental soul inside of Max. Max began his business career as a salesman at Sequoia Mill, a cabinet manufacturer in Redwood City. In time, he became President and co-owner of the business until they closed their doors in the 90's. He continued to work in the kitchen and bath industry until his retirement. Max was an avid weekend warrior. He loved his pool and swam daily, hiked the Sierras with buddies, played a mean game of tennis, loved to sail and eventually took up the game of golf. The daily sports section was never far from reach. Downhill skiing brought him great pleasure, teaching his young daughters in the 1960's and then all 5 grandchildren.

The legacy that he leaves behind includes not only his immediate family but extended family with whom he shares a cabin in Bear Valley that was hand built by Max, his father Max Sr. and brother-in-law Michael Monnich. This cabin brought years of joy and respite to Max and his family.

Max Harrison Bailey was a man that was so well loved and loved so well. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

The family extends their gratitude to Bridgepoint Senior Living in Los Altos and Suncrest Hospice for the loving care of Max these last couple of years.

At Max's request the family will be having a small private gathering. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to research for Supra Nuclear Palsy at Cure PSP or the University of the Pacific Alumni Association.
