Mary Rose
Kung
December 28, 1935 – August 13, 2023
Mary Rose Kung (December 28, 1935 - August 13, 2023) Mary Rose Kung, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023, after several months in hospice.
Mary Rose studied agriculture economics at National Chung Hsing University then emigrated to the US from Taiwan for graduate studies in 1957. She met Sidney during graduate school and they married while at the University of Illinois.
In 1965, they settled in Jacksonville, Florida where she raised a family and continued studies to become a Math teacher. She worked at various schools before finding a home at Orange Park High School where she worked till 2000. She had many, outstanding years where all of her students scored >4 on the AP Calculus Test. After retiring to Cupertino, CA to be near family, she became interested in investing; and, despite the protestations from her children to be conservative, she became a technology growth investor and a pretty good one at that.
She was also very proud of her children- Sophia, Joseph, and Chuck - and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren during holidays, family birthdays, and other celebrations. Unlike Sidney, she was not a favorite of Chuck's pet dog Chewie, undoubtedly because she usually shooed him away.
Mary Rose is survived by her brother (George), her children, and 5 grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at St Joseph of Cupertino, 10110 North De Anza Blvd, Cupertino CA 95014 on August 29th, 12:30pm to be followed by Interment of ashes at Gates of Heaven, 22555 Cristo Rey Dr, Los Altos CA 94024.
