Los Altos Golf and Country Club
11:00 am - 2:00 pm (Pacific time)
Martin James Spangler (Marty) entered into rest on May 25, 2026. He was born to Martin and Mary Spangler in San Francisco, CA on February 25, 1934, and grew up in Mountain View, CA. Marty was a graduate of Mountain View High School and then Stanford University in 1955, where he was a proud member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Upon graduation and marriage to his college sweetheart, Suzanne Bailey, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he flew jets and built strong bonds with his fellow airmen. Following his service to our country, he returned home with Sue and their first child, to take over the family business of Spangler Mortuaries (Los Altos, Mountain View and Sunnyvale). Marty carried on the important job of serving families in his community, that which his parents began in 1935.
Marty and his wife, Sue, longtime residents of Mountain View and Los Altos, were married 70 years, and led a beautiful life together. They raised 4 children, faithfully attended their kid’s many activities, and also invested their time in their community. Marty coached Little League Baseball, served as the President of the Mountain View-Los Altos High School Board and was actively involved in the Rotary Club of Los Altos, serving as President in 1970. Marty and Sue enjoyed the blessings of 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, time at their ranch in Lodi, CA, and their vacation home in Carmel Valley, as well as travels with many dear friends.
Marty is survived by his son Jim (and Jane) Spangler; daughters Linda (and Tom) Cave, and Kristen (and Charles) Bauer; daughter-in-law, Trish Spangler, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger son, Scott Spangler (2022) and his beloved wife, Suzanne Bailey (July, 2025).
The family wishes to thank both Villa Siena and Sunny View Care Center for their loving care of their father in his final months. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12, 2026 from 11am to 2pm at Los Altos Golf and Country Club, 1560 Country Club Drive, Los Altos, CA 94024. Donations to The Stanford Fund for Undergraduate Education, P.O. Box 20466, Stanford, CA 94309-0466 preferred.
