Obituary

M ankanwal (Kanwal) Rana, 68 , of Bangalore, India, passed away on March 22, 2022, in San Jose.

Kanwal was born on 06/21/1953 in India . She enjoyed her life surrounded by friends and family. She had a passion for the arts and after completing her Bachelor's Degree, she earned her Master's Degree in Music from Punjabi University, Patiala. She was devoted to her family and instilled in them the confidence to pursue life fearlessly and unapologetically. She was married and raised three children all while pursuing multiple talents including her keen eye for creativity and art. This led to opening her own boutique in Bangalore, India, where she designed and sold her own clothing with the flair and artistry that only she possessed. A modern woman of her time, she enjoyed performing, accompanying anyone on the tabla, or singing. Throughout her life, she found joy in caring for others and making others smile. She loved going on trips to explore new places, spending time with family and friends, watching movies, her favorite tv shows, singing karaoke, trying new things, exploring new designs for her boutique, and especially cooking and trying new cuisines. Her love of cooking was evident in the dishes she prepared and how she always made sure that those around her were well fed. This was her way of showing how much she cared for those in her life.

True to her name, Kanwal's strength, courage, resilience, and beauty were something to be admired. Throughout the most difficult times in her life, Kanwal showed up steadfast in her friendships and selfless in every way. She was at the center of her family and friendships and these strong friendships spanned decades. Ma, as her children called her, were her best friends. Nothing brought her more joy than knowing her children and grandchild were happy and safe. She was kind, generous, and compassionate. Her smile lit up every room and made others feel at home. She made you feel part of her family and always had a story to tell, inquired about the lives of those around her, had advice to share, or had hugs to give. She was everyone's favorite Aunty.

Her funeral service will be held on April 15, 2022. Following her funeral, there will be lunch and prayers at the San Jose Gurudwara, https://goo.gl/maps/Khy7QAwzJk5LjaRF8, from 12:30 PM-2:00 PM.
