Obituary of Madeleine Ann Coleman Morse
Madeleine Ann Coleman Morse passed away Monday August 15 at her Sunnyvale home, where she had lived for 61 years, with her devoted friend and caregiver, Evangelina Sarmiento, at her bedside.
Madeleine was born in Berkeley and grew up in Richmond, CA, where she was raised as an only child by her parents, Roy and Florence Coleman, and by her Italian immigrant grandparents. She married Andrew Morse, "the love of my life," as she often said, on August 31, 1952 and they lived together until his death in 1993.
Madeleine loved animals, especially dogs, and was active in animal welfare education as well as the local PTA. Madeleine was a skilled secretary, but she especially enjoyed learning; she took college classes throughout her life, and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed ceramics, painting, and music. She was generous supporter of many charitable causes, especially in mental health and animal welfare.
She raised two children, Linda Morse (Gosting) and Gary Morse. She loved and was loved by her children and by her beloved grandson, Vincent Andrew Morse, her great-grandson, Matteo Andrew Morse, and various in-laws, including Francis Morse, Susan Morse, and the late Charles Gosting. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces and cherished friends and good neighbors.
Madeleine enjoyed life, but as a religious and spiritual individual, she was also looking forward at the end of her life to being reunited with her husband, parents, grandparents, pets, and God.
