Obituary of Louise May Dougherty
Louise May Dougherty, 88, passed away February 9, 2012 after a short illness. She departed peacefully with family members at her side. Born October 9, 1923 and raised in southwest Philadelphia with two sisters, she attended John Bartram High School where she met and married the love of her life James W. Dougherty. In 1962, Philco-Ford Corporation relocated them to California. They were married for 53 years when Jim lost his battle to Alzheimer's in 2001. Louise was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and aunt. Throughout her life she demonstrated her devotion to her family and her Catholic faith. Much of her time and energy was spent doing charitable work. She showed kindness and gave encouragement to everyone. She was an active member and volunteer of St. Simon Church and School. For more than 20 years, she dedicated her time and talent to St. Francis High School, serving on many committees and working in the business office. She was one of the original volunteers at the Los Altos History Museum, and most recently, was an Ambassador and President of the BridgePoint Resident's Association where she lived until becoming ill. She is survived by her two sons James W. Dougherty Jr. and John F. Dougherty; daughter L. Kathleen (Katie) Gilchrest; daughter-in-law Carrie Lee Mohun; son-in-law Paul Gilchrest; 3 grandsons James W. Dougherty III; Rory Lee Dougherty; Cobi John Dougherty and 24 nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to a Vigil service Monday, February 13, 2012 at 7:00pm at the Los Altos Chapel of Spangler Mortuaries, 399 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos, CA and to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Simon Church, 1840 Grant Road, Los Altos, CA. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Francis High School - Louise M. Dougherty Scholarship Fund, 1885 Miramonte Ave., Mountain View, CA 94040
