Obituary of Louis E. Ramos
Louis E. Ramos "Lou", passed away on October 12, 2016, at El Camino Hospital, Mt. View, CA, after five courageous years battling multiple cancers.
He was born January 1, 1924, in New Orleans, LA, to Frank & Eugenie Rousset Ramos.
He is preceded in death by siblings, Paul Ramos and Marie Ramos.
He graduated from Jesuit High School and Tulane University, New Orleans, LA.
Enrolled in the Navy R.O.T.C at Tulane, he graduated. Served as 1st Lieutenant in the US Navy. His service during WW II was all over the Pacific war theatre. His ship was anchored in Tokyo Bay, on September 2, 1945, during the Japanese surrender ceremony.
Married in 1949 to his wife, Nancy Peairs Ramos, of Normal, IL. He was the devoted and loving father to three sons, Randy (Kathy), Jon, and Brian; two grandchildren, Monique (Chris Chaffee), and Christina, all of California.
He was recalled for the Korean War, and served in the Atlantic & Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Moving to California in 1953, they purchased their Palo Alto home in 1954, and lived there until 2002. Moving to The Forum, in Cupertino, he enjoyed his weekly poker games, and bocce tournaments, as well as extensive travel.
Lou worked in sales for Bell & Howell in San Francisco & Burlingame, from 1953 to 1973. He co-founded Accurite Industries, a printing company in 1974, and retired as Executive Vice president in 1997.
For over 45 years, Lou was an active stat crew volunteer at Stanford football, basketball, and swimming events. He was a member of the Palo Alto Elks Club for over 35 years. His handball foursome played each week, for over 30 years. Many years were spent as Assistant coach, and refereeing in the Palo Alto Little League.
In the 1950's and 1960's he fished for salmon with friends on the Eel, Russian, Smith, Klamath, and Carmel rivers.
Many weekends and family vacations were spent at the family vacation homes in Pajaro Dunes and Carmel, CA.
He was known as a man of principle, and expected others to conduct themselves to the highest level.
Memorial Services were held on Friday, October 28th, at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Palo Alto, CA.
Lou was always proud of his Southern heritage.
