Obituary of Lia Marie Garcia

Lia Marie Garcia, 82, of Sunnyvale passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. She was born on August 16, 1931 in San Francisco, CA, to the late Natale and Semira Bartolozzi. Lia grew up in Noe Valley where she attended Balboa High School. She and her family moved to Redwood City where she later met Frank Garcia, a pharmacist at the local Walgreens where Lia often picked up her parents' prescriptions. Love blossomed, and on June 8, 1957, Lia and Frank were married. They lived in Redwood City, CA, before relocating to Sunnyvale in 1974. Lia was a Sales Order Service supervisor with Johnson & Johnson in Menlo Park until she retired in 1976. Lia was a member of Resurrection Church and the Italian Catholic Federation. She enjoyed reading and knitting, and passed on her love of those activities to her daughter, Louise. Family was extremely important to Lia, and she spent many happy times enjoying the company of her husband, children, grandchildren, sister, niece, and nephews. Although Lia's life was marked by many illnesses and surgeries, she kept a warm smile on her face and rarely complained. She inspired others by her unwavering optimism. Lia is remembered in love by her husband, Frank; her children, Brian Garcia (Alice) and Louise Williamson; her two grandchildren, Matt Garcia and Alex Williamson; her sister, Hilda Powell, and her niece and nephews, Steve, Dennis and Linda Powell. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be an appreciated way to celebrate her victory over multiple cancers. A viewing will be held at Spangler Mortuary in Mountain View at 12 noon on Monday, May 12, with the memorial service immediately following at 1 pm in the Spangler chapel.
