Lawrence Lupash,
Phd
October 1, 2019
Laurențiu, Ențiu for us his Romanian friends, was an American scientist, born in
Romania on May 29, 1942. He died in the horrible rampage on October 1st, 2019
here in Rancho San Antonio Park.
Lawrence was an expert in the GPS field and worked for almost 30 years for such
prestigious companies as: Lockheed, Trimble, Motorola, and Boeing. In his
professional field he held seven patents. In his free time he was an outstanding chess
and bridge player. Once retired from work, his hobbies included gardening and
stamp collecting. He used to take daily long walks in this beautiful park where he lost
his life.
His family has its roots in Transylvania and includes scientists and historians who
were persecuted by the communist regime. Ovidiu LupaÈ™, his father, held a doctoral
degree from a German university and was a self-taughtcomposer of classical music.
One of Lawrence's forbears was the eminent historian Ioan Lupas (1880-1967) a
member of the Romanian Academy.
Lawrence's tragic death is a great loss for his many friends and for the entire
Sunnyvale community. He will be sorely missed.
May he rest in peace!
