Obituary of Laura Ritchey Toby

Laura Ritchey Toby passed away on March 25th at her home in Mountain View, surrounded by her family. Laura was born on October 17, 1955, and grew up in Los Altos. She graduated from Awalt High School in 1974 and went on to Santa Clara University, where she met her future husband, Brian. Laura transferred to Loyola Marymount University and graduated in 1978 with a BA in Theatre Arts and an emphasis in Dance. That same year she married Brian Toby, and they went on to raise two daughters, Megan Toby and Jillian Toby-Cummings. Laura spent many years performing in the local theatre community, in addition to directing and producing plays for Los Altos Youth Theatre. Her love for children, especially young adults, showed in the care and compassion she used to inspire them within the arts. Her favorite times were spent with her friends and family, especially when vacationing in Kauai. A dedicated member of the Catholic Church, Laura was very involved with various cancer support groups, youth groups, and Cursillo, among other activities. Throughout her life, Laura's faith in the Church and her love of God remained constant and true. The funeral will be held at 12:30pm on April 6th at Saint Simon Church, 1860 Grant Road, Los Altos. Laura was an active member of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), and her family would like to extend an invitation to participate in the MMRF Race for Research the following day, April 7th, at the San Francisco Marina Green.
