Kitty Chan, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 8, 2025, at the age of 63, surrounded by her loving family. She battled complications from ALS with courage and grace and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Born in the vibrant city of Hong Kong during the spring of 1962, Kitty's life journey was marked by resilience, compassion, and quiet strength.
Kitty immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 16, embracing her new home with courage and optimism. She pursued her education at UC Berkeley, earning a Bachelor's degree in Computing Systems. Her career was marked by dedication and excellence, with roles at several prominent technology and financial firms. Her colleagues remember her as a friendly, thoughtful, and dedicated individual who always brought a positive spirit to the workplace.
Kitty met her future husband Steven Hanley at Sybase in 1990. They married in October 1992, and together they built a life filled with love and adventure. Their most treasured joy came in the year 2000 with the birth of their son, Eathan. Family was the center of her universe, and she poured her love, wisdom, and support into their lives.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Kitty cherished time spent with family and friends, exploring new dining experiences, traveling to new destinations, and indulging in her passion for crochet. She always approached life with a cheerful spirit and thoughtful kindness.
Kitty will be remembered for her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that touched all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Steven, her son Eathan, her sister Christine, and her brothers Raymond and Spencer. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, Lok Hei Chan and Liu Yuk Kit Chan.
A memorial service to honor Kitty's remarkable life will be held May 24th, at Spangler Mortuary in Mountain View. Viewing will start at 11AM with service starting at 12:30PM. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the ALS Association (
ALS.ORG
) or Team Gleason (
TeamGleason.org
) in Kitty's memory, supporting the continued fight against this devastating disease.
Kitty's warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and grace will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate to know her.
