Obituary

Joyce Ann Martin, age 80, of San Jose, California passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Regional Medical Center in San Jose after suffering multiple strokes.

Joyce Ann Martin (maiden name Peters) was born on March 18, 1943, in Coweta, Oklahoma, and was the fifth of eight children born to Jewel Andrews Peters and Vernon Peters. Joyce was a dedicated homemaker and loving mother. Her joyous spirit was evident from an early age, described by her mother as a happy and good baby. She had a deep passion for dancing, spreading laughter, making friends, and wholeheartedly supporting her beloved San Francisco 49ers. Her unwavering faith led her to be a committed member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sunnyvale, California.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Martin Sr. and children, Johnny Etier, Tommy Etier, Crystal Rodgers ( Etier), Melanie Torres (Martin), and Richard Martin Jr. Grandchildren include, Thomas Etier (Schmiedeberg), Michelle Etier, Vicky Etier, Echo Etier, Shamika Wise (Frank), Tameka Frank, Raymond Frank Jr, Hyacinth Frank, Daymond Frank, Bryan Torres, and Ryan Torres. Great grandchildren are Robbie Lee Wooldridge, Andrew Reyes, Thomas Schmiedeberg Jr, Abigail Schmiedeberg, Joshua Taylor, and Nova Darwin. Siblings are Lavonne Baker (Peters), Larry Peters, and Gerald Peters.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Jewel Andrews Peters and Vernon Peters, a son, Jerry Lee Etier who died in February of 2014, a grandchild, Michael Frank who died on July 24, 2001, and siblings, Lillian Ruth Brown, Gene Peters, Sylvia Jane Camarillo, Gary Lee Peters and Windel Hilton (son of Lillian Ruth Brown who was raised by Jewel and Vernon as one of their own).

On November 2, 2023, a graveside service was held at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in Santa Clara, California
