Joseph Leggette
Jr.
August 3, 1952 – January 13, 2026
Joseph "Joe" Leggette Jr. has finished his sojourn on this earth, and his Maker has called him home.
Joe was born to J.D. and Allene Leggette on August 3rd,1952. He was welcomed by his adoring sisters, Janice and Edith, who thought he was the most beautiful creature they had ever seen. He was reared in a Christian home and attended church services and Sunday School regularly. As an adult, he continued his relationship with God but did not belong to a church.
Joe was educated in the public schools of Sharkey, Washington, Bolivar and Tunica counties in Mississippi. When he was in high school, he and two other students were selected to spend a summer in an Upward Bound program. This was a federally funded initiative by the U.S. Department of Education designed to help certain high school students prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education. Joe's summer in Hartford, Connecticut was so exciting that he opted to stay and finish his senior year of high school there. He was blessed to be welcomed into the home of Arthur and Kiki Wolf, becoming a beloved member of their family. He attended the William Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut. He completed his bachelor's degree at Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts.
After college, Joe decided to study law in California. After a semester or so, he changed his mind and eventually moved on to the position of Media Technician in the Cecil Green Library at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. Joe loved his work there and over his 40+ years, he took pride in being able to assist the professors who came to the library for media to supplement their instruction. This job gave him an opportunity to fine-tune his organizational skills and use the cornucopia of facts which he accumulated over his lifetime.
After retiring from Stanford, Joe enjoyed attending concerts on and off the Stanford campus, basketball and football games at Stanford and visiting with his sisters on Zoom.
He is survived by his two sisters, Janice James and Edith Dillon (Barry); his nephew and niece, Bob James Jr. and Robyn James; and a host of cousins.
