John Mills Stidd, 77, of Los Altos, Californiadied peacefully in his home on the morning of June 14, 2021. He is survived byKarenElvira(Browne)Stidd,his wife of 56 years,his children Sean and Jessica,and his granddaughter Miriam.

Johnwas born in Pendleton, Oregon to Charles Ketchum Stidd and Barbara Jean(Mills) Stiddon January 12, 1944.Heattended Pendleton High School and Reed College before enlisting in the Air Force, where he served his country during the Vietnam war. His keen mathematical talent and computer trainingbrought him toSiliconValley, where he worked for a series of tech startups and then for the famous Xerox research labs in Palo Alto.

John was a stroke survivor who courageously fought the effects of his stroke for almost twenty years.In spite ofthis, he never lost his keen sense of humor or his love for math, science, history, economics, political science, and music, and he completed the Jumble with his wife Karen every day.He was a master level bridge playeras well as a keen student of go and pokeranda skilled and knowledgeable photographerwho took classes with Ansel Adams.He studied Pali so he could read the earliest recorded teachings of the Buddha.He was curious and enthusiasticto the end. A private service was held for John's family, who will miss him along with all who knew him.
