John Nelson Love passed peacefully on July 28, 2018. The son of William I. Love and Flora G. (Hayward) Love, John was born in Nyack, NY, in 1927. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany following the end of WWII. After his military service, he attended the University of Southern California where he received a degree in business. While in college John met his first wife, Dorothy J. (Ostrey) Love, to whom he was married for 33 years until her passing in 1984. They had two children, a son and a daughter.

John began his career at Pan American World Airways, followed by over 30 years at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. Prior to retiring, he held the position of Director of Personnel Services (employment and training).

For many years and at many levels, John was an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, including serving as Council President for the Stanford Area Council and for the Pacific Skyline Council. He also volunteered at the Lost Chord Club of Santa Clara, assisting other laryngectomy patients in learning to speak again. John enjoyed photography, travel, and model railroading, as well as working with his hands, creating toys, jewelry, and miniature models.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law, John is survived by his second wife of 34 years, Rita Love, his son John N. Love Jr. and daughter-in-law Mary, his daughter Lori J. Love-Wilmunder and son-in-law Aric, and five grandchildren.

A private interment was held for the family on August 6, 2018, at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Sierra Room at the Forum at Rancho San Antonio, 23500 Cristo Rey Drive, Cupertino, CA, 95014.
