Obituary

John Aldon Etheridge, a beloved husband, father and Papa, was called to his eternal home August 9, 2025.  John was born on November 14, 1947, in Fresno, California, to Charles and Irene Etheridge.

John dedicated his life to God and his family. On August 17, 1968, he married the love of his life, Venita Etheridge. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and laughter, nurturing a family that would come to embody their shared values of love and devotion. John is survived by his loving wife, Venita, their four children: Cheri, Serena, John, and Cindy and 7 grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of his legacy forward, embodying the love that he so freely gave.

A man of great conviction, John pursued his education at Impact School of Ministry, where he deepened his understanding of faith and spirituality. This foundation led him to a spiritual calling to work in the jail ministry, helping those men find and see their true value in Christ.   John held a career as an IT director, where he was known for his dedication and expertise. His IT career allowed him to combine his technical skills with his passion for helping others. His professional life was marked by integrity and a genuine care for those he worked with—a testament to the character that defined him.

John was more than just a professional; he was an active member of his community. He served as an elder and a board member at Gateway City Church, where he shared his passion for God and his commitment to service. His laughter and jokes were a great joy to many, and his faith was a guiding light in the lives of those around him. He had an incredible ability to bring joy to any situation, and his presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to all.

John had a love for adventure! In his youth he was an avid surfer, but the adventure didn't stop there.  John took to the skies and became a skilled pilot. He had a unique flair for flying that would occasionally leave his wife both in awe and a little frightened during his creative (some would say daring) landing maneuvers.

John was known for his infectious laughter - a sound that could lift any room - and for being the best gift recipient ever.   Whether it was a beautiful drawing from one of his grandchildren, a simple meal or thoughtfully chosen present, John's heartfelt gratitude made you feel loved and special. John had a zest for life and a heart dedicated to serving God and others. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, joy and unwavering love for his family and community.

John Etheridge's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and community.
