Jeanette Eugenia
Puorro
October 7, 1921 – May 24, 2022
With several of her family members at her side, Jeanette Eugenia (McCue) Puorro passed away peacefully on May 24th at 100 years old.
One of seven children, Jeanette was born and raised in Somerville, MA. She attended Boston College (and eventually earned her bachelor's degree at Patterson State University in NJ in 1972) and worked as a secretary during World War II. After the war, she met her husband-to-be, Thomas Puorro, and the two were married in April 1949.
The couple went on to have seven children of their own. They were married for 71 years until Tom passed away in 2020.Jeanette loved her family first and foremost. She devoted herself to raising her seven kids and keeping the family together while Tom traveled frequently for his job with IBM. Jeanette was a life-long devout Catholic and was often seen walking to daily mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Los Altos, where she served as a eucharistic minister and a lector and helped with many church fundraisers. She also loved plants and gardening and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle whiz.
An eager traveler, Jeanette enjoyed many adventures with Tom and the kids, including a 1962 cross-country drive in a station wagon (with kids ages 6 months to 11 years); a 1971 family trip to Europe, where they bought a van and camped their way across the continent; a 1972 trip to Japan with Tom; and several trips to Hawaii in the 1990s and 2000s. She also traveled to Greece, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Russia. Jeanette and Tom were long-time residents of Los Altos Hills until they moved to Sunny View
Retirement Community in Cupertino in 2014.
Jeanette is survived by her seven children: Thomas Puorro, Jr, of Chesterfield, MO; Rosemary (Puorro) Ryan of Santa Cruz, CA; Mark Puorro and his wife Kim Puorro of San Jose, CA; Gregory Puorro of Waipahu, HI; Jane (Puorro) Bailey and her husband Bruce Bailey, of Brooklyn, NY; Richard Puorro of Santa Cruz, CA; and Suzanne (Puorro) Golden-Riley and her husband Mark Riley of Santa Cruz, CA; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Joseph McCue of Hampton, NH. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Puorro; her parents, Daniel McCue and Mary Ellen (O'Malley) McCue; her brothers Daniel McCue, Arthur McCue, Rev. Richard McCue and Eugene McCue; and her sister, Mary (McCue) McQuilkin.
A funeral mass for Jeanette Puorro will be held on Saturday, June 4 th at 12noon at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 473 Lincoln Ave in Los Altos. The burial will follow the mass at 2pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 22555 Cristo Rey Drive in Los Altos. All are welcome to attend. The family
