Obituary of Jane Crawford Simons

Jane Crawford Simons, 85, of Portola Valley, California, died on July 13, 2013. Jane was born to the late Oliver Maughs Crawford and Rachel (Ray) Alten Crawford, Feb. 13, 1928, in Los Angeles, CA. Jane graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1946 and received a BA in Art from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1950. At UCLA, she was in the Delta Gamma Fraternity. She married the late William Riley Simons in 1951. They lived together in Atherton, CA, Medford, OR, and Palo Alto, CA. Jane retired at The Sequoias in Portola Valley, CA in 2005. Jane was an interior designer with her own company, Jane Simons Interiors, until she retired in 2005. She was passionate about helping her clients. Jane was a tireless volunteer with the PTA, the American Field Service, the League of Women Voters, the Woodside Atherton Auxiliary (including volunteer work at Allied Arts), and the Delta Gamma Alumnae (including twice being president of the Palo Alto chapter and receiving an honorary Life Membership, the national Stellar Award, and the national Cable Award for her outstanding service). She loved to garden, creating beautiful gardens wherever she lived. She loved to travel, visiting Europe, England, Greece, Turkey, Australia, and China. Jane is survived by two children: John Riley Simons of Pacific Grove, CA; and Robert Alten Simons of Pacific Grove, CA. She also is survived by one grandchild: Nathan Crawford Simons. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. The memorial services were held in Portola Valley, CA. Burial will be a private ceremony at the El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove, CA.
