James Clifford
De Broekert
February 9, 1930 – August 12, 2025
Jim de Broekert passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 12 th, 2025. He was born to Gerard & Daisy Margaret de Broekert, on February 9 th 1930, in Salem, Oregon. Jim attended Oregon State College, graduating with a BSEE degree in 1952. He next attended Stanford University, achieving a MSEE degree in 1955. Jim was awarded the status of Professional Engineer EE from Stanford University in 1957.
Jim volunteered at KOAC, a Radio station in Corvallis Oregon where he would host a radio show. Jim was also known for taking his record collection to dances, where he would perform as the deejay.
From 1955 to 1969, Jim worked as a Research Engineer and Lecturer in Systems Techniques Laboratories at Stanford University. He was responsible for research & development of programs for Electronic Military applications, while simultaneously teaching courses in electronics and solid-state circuit design.
He co-founded Argo Systems in 1969. Mr. de Broekert was responsible for the Systems Analysis Division with an emphasis on Research & Development. In addition to Leadership, he provided technical management of several high technology receivers & signal processing hardware and software programs.
Jim founded Advent Systems, Inc. in January 1978. He held the position of Chairman & Senior Scientist. Their focus was centered on collection & data processing concept studies including environment definition, propagation effects, digitization and data reporting.
He was honored to be selected as one of 46 Pioneers of the National Reconnaissance Office in September 2000, after 40 years of service.
Jim worked in the Radar Systems Group of North American Aviation, engaged in the development of Airborne radar displays and range tracking computers. As a Consulting Engineer, active in solid-state circuit design and receiving systems analysis, Mr. de Broekert has assisted multiple corporate and government organizations on direction-finding systems, etc.
He is survived by a multitude of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
