Jack V
Harris
February 25, 1927 – March 25, 2023
Jack V. Harris was an extraordinary man of faith, an adoring son, a loving husband of 63 years, and the best father a daughter could ever dream of. He died on March 25, 2023 at the age of 96.
Jack was born in Southern California in San Bernardino, February 25, 1927 to Ferne Hazel Harris and Oren Foster Harris. He had a sister, Marjorie, who was eleven years older. In High School, Jack won two regional debating championships, played baseball, and earned his Eagle Scout badge. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and worked as an electrical engineer in the aviation service until the war ended. He then returned to Stanford University, graduating in 1948, with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was elected to the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. His first job took him to Canton Ohio at the tender age of 21, where he was blessed to meet his wife of 63 years, Tere (Maria Teresa Magisano); he was baptized into the Catholic Church and Italian culture. A business transfer moved the newlyweds to Buffalo New York, and after one freezing winter, Jack decided it was time to return to California. Their first jobs in CA were in San Jose, where Jack and Tere bought a house in Los Gatos and were blessed with three daughters, Diane, Julie and Sandy, that adored him. Jack provided for his family working as a mechanical press applications salesman for E. W. Bliss Co. and Schlage, retiring in 1999 at the age of 72. In 2013 his cherished wife Tere died after five years of illness. His daughter Diane arranged four ocean cruises to bring him some joy. His two favorite cruises were Tahiti (happy island life) and the Baltic Sea (History). In 2018 Jack sold his home of 55 years in Los Altos Hills and moved to Diane's new Lake Wildwood home, where he said "the worlds greatest neighbors live." Almost every morning he woke up with a grateful heart for the birds singing, the deer in the yard, completing a Sudoku puzzle, and the ability to make a daily walk. Now after a life of blessings, he joins his wife and daughter Julie in heaven.
Everyone that met Jack was charmed. He will be remembered for his hugs, tall frame, his generosity, his smile, and chats with neighbors on his daily walk. He was the best dressed man in church, always wearing a Hickey Freeman suit and colorful tie to honor God. Jack will be missed on earth and celebrated in heaven by those who preceded him. Until we meet again Dad, we will miss you. Thank you for your love, protection, values and beliefs. Thank you for always providing for your family. If we learn about God from our fathers, you were the best example I know. Missing you already, your loving daughters, Diane and Sandy and everyone else. Jack V. Harris, a cherished man.
