Obituary of Isabel Diven Woodford
Isabel Diven Woodford passed away peacefully at her home in Menlo Park, California on November 29, 2012. She was 105 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Earl Woodford, former President of the Federal Home Loan bank of San Francisco. Isabel was born on January 23, 1907, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Hannah Mae Diven. She was little sister to Charles, Lawrence, and Dale. She loved to tag along with her youngest brother, Dale! "I was a real bother to him," she said. At 10 years of age, Isabel and her family moved to Warren, Ohio. After graduating from Roosevelt School, she attended Warren High School, where she was a member of the Honor Society, Glee Club, Class Basketball, High Life Staff, and Class Secretary. After graduation in 1925, she took a secretarial position with Warren Guaranty Title & Company. Later, she took a new position at Trumbull Savings and Loan Association in the Insurance department, where she met a handsome teller and future husband, Lewis Earl Woodford. He often told us, "I admired her in study hall at high school, but she would never give me a tumble." Isabel and Earl married in 1933 and son, Donald, was borin in 1942. In 1953, the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Isabel became an active member of the Presbyterian Church of the Pacific Palisades. Another move came in 1956 when the family settled in Menlo Park, California, where Isabel became an active member of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church under Rev. Don Hall. She served as Deacon and as Secretary, and also participated in the Women's Association (now Presbyterian Women of MPPC) and served as Circle Leader and Co-Leader. She treasured the many freidnships she had at MPPC. She said, "My service in the Presbyterian Church of Pacific Palisades and the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church were the highlights of my Christian life." Isabel was well known in her neighborhood as "The Cookie Lady." She cherished the "Cookie Kids" who stopped by for an Oreo Cookie on their way home from school. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Larson & husband, Gary; her son, Rev. Don Woodford; her 3 grandchildren, Laurie Row & husband, Truman; Kari Phillips; Brad Larson & wife, Lisa; and her 6 great-grandchildren, Page Phillips; Jenn, Ashley, & Haley Roe; Julia and Owen Larson. Isabel, throughout her lifetime, has been a model of grace and strength, loving and supportive to her husband, her children, and to all of her family; she has been an inspiration to us all. She will be forever in our hearts. Services for Isabel are being held on Monday, December 10, 2012 as follows: Visitation - Spangler Mortuary, 399 S.
