Obituary of Howard W.D. Bailey

Howie joined the bright light of Heaven with his LORD (REV. 22) on Easter Sunday, April 16th, 2017.

Howie spent nearly his entire professional and personal life enjoying his greatest passion, flying airplanes. He served for 13 years with the Washington Air National Guard and 44 years as a member of Civil Air Patrol in California. Howie was a commercial airline pilot for 31 years with United Airlines close to his home in San Carlos. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon, elder and several other volunteer positions; first at San Mateo for 13 years and Menlo Church for the past 36 years.

Howie was a generous person with both his time and money. Always willing to offer a lending hand to someone in need, it was never a question of if, but rather when and where. He volunteered for countless organizations, most notably Hope Unlimited where he was a founding board member and volunteer for over 26 years. He will be eternally remembered for his bright smile, warm greetings and loving heart.

He leaves behind his Bride of 52 years, Dee, and his two fine sons, Christopher (USC) and Brian (UCLA). Also, his wonderful daughters-in-law, Christa and Jamie. Then, of course, his two grandsons, Jack (13), Nicholas (10) and his granddaughter, Miss Olivia (3). Howie is survived by his older brother, Ted and wife, Jean from Kirkland, WA. Howie graduated from North Central High School, Spokane, WA in 1955 and Eastern Washington University in 1964.

Services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, May 11th at Menlo Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hope Unlimited for Children.
