Obituary of Howard Cully Beck

Howard Cully Beck succumbed to terminal cancer on April 21, 2014. Family and friends were by his side upon his passing in his home in Los Altos, CA . He was 89 years old. Howard was a proud and loving father. He is survived by his son, Gerald Webb (Jeannie) of Owings, MD; daughter Bonnie Pellegrini (Louie) of Los Altos, CA; son Thomas Beck (Mary) of La Plata, MD; and daughter Elizabeth Caldwell(Dennis) of Kempner, TX. He is pre-deceased by his son Lewis Beck of Mt. View, CA. Howard leaves behind 17 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by Niece Robin Hanifin (Danny) of Waldorf, MD; Nephew Edward Perrie (Carol) of Surfside Beach, SC; Nieces Linda Paiva, Melissa Scheidler and Nephew Robert Scheidler of Hopewell Junction, NY. Howard was born and raised in Georgetown, Washington D.C where he lived until his marriage to Elizabeth Irene Beck. He moved to Maryland where they raised their family together for over 20 years. Howard proudly worked for the Pan American Union (Organization of American States) in Washington, D.C as Publications Supervisor from 1943 until his retirement in 1989. He was a hard working man who also during that same period of time worked nights at the Lutheran Churches as a janitor and on the weekends as a bowling alley mechanic. He moved in with his daughter Bonnie and her family of Los Altos, CA in 2002 .He enjoyed reconnecting with his West Coast family and spent his time gardening, shopping, reading, and singing Karaoke at the local Loyal Order of Moose. Howard loved the animals in his life as much as he did the people in his life. He was quick to steal the hearts of many with his charm, wit, and great sense of humor. He was a diehard Washington Redskins fan to the very end and somehow managed to find many Redskins fans in California to watch the games with. Howard was a very unique and loving man and will be missed by all who knew him. A service will be held in Los Altos, CA at Spangler Mortuary Los Altos Chapel 399 So. San Antonio Rd. on Sunday April 27, at 2pm.
