Hari Mohan
Varma
July 1, 1934 – April 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my beloved father, Hari Mohan Varma, who left us on Friday, April 10th 2026 in San Jose, California. He was 91. He was a cherished husband, son, devoted father & father-in-law, uncle, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and loyal friend to many.
I think he planned his exit from this stage of life at the same date and approximate time as his wife Renu Verma, who crossed over on the morning of 11th April 2013 in India. Thirteen years later, when my father crossed over on April 10th in San Jose, it was also the morning of 11th April in India.
Born on July 1, 1934 in India, Hari Mohan lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering integrity. He was known for his gentle spirit, his great sense of humor, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. Many have reached out to me, telling me stories of how he touched their lives. It is remarkable how he kept in touch with so many people - family and friends - scattered around the world.
Hari Mohan was a geologist, a scientific officer at the Department of Atomic Energy in India. He was passionate about his work. My father lost his eyesight to macular degeneration several years back, and had several other health complications as well. But despite all this, in 2021 he still published a research paper on the discovery of a new mineral, many years after he retired from active employment.
He loved listening to music, and was always well informed about world news.
He was preceded in death by his wife Renu Verma, and son Sanjay Verma. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Seema Verma, daughter Swati Nigam, son-in-law Swami Nigam, granddaughter Saumya Jain & grand son-in-law Shreyas Jain, granddaughter Natasha Nigam, grandsons Sarthak Verma & Ujjwal Nigam, and great grandson Saatvik Jain.
Cremation & services will be held on Friday, April 17th starting at 9:30 AM at Spangler Mortuary, Sunnyvale, attended by family and dear friends to celebrate his remarkable life.
His memory will live in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him. Rest in peace, Dad. You will always be missed and never forgotten.
