Obituary

Eva Maria (Evi) Byer was born in Yugoslavia and grew up in Ingolstadt, Germany. She came to the US in 1957 with her Mother Rosina Guzsella who was pregnant with her sister Susi. Evi became a US citizen in 1962 and met Bob Byer at Pasadena High School. They married in August of 1964 and their family grew to include four children. Evi was active in sports (especially soccer and tennis), cooking (a loyal member of her Cuisine Club), and crafts (sewing, quilting, cross-stitch, wood working, knitting, and many more pursuits).

Evi survived many challenges, including helping Douglas adjust after a serious car accident in 1984 put him in a wheelchair with brain injuries. She was a fierce advocate for his care. Evi was outspoken and never afraid to express her desires or opinions. The family would like to thank Ivy Park at Palo Alto for the care she received in the last few years of her life. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, Evi fought to survive, and passed away after hospice at Stanford Hospital. We are grateful she is no longer in pain and family and friends had time to visit with her.

She is preceded in death by her parents (Louis and Rosina Guzsella) and sister (Susi Guzsella) and survived by her loyal husband Bob and her children Scott (Susan), Douglas, Mark (Stephanie), and Evi-Lynn (Eve, Colin Young).

There will be a private graveside service Oct 30th, followed by an open Celebration of Life gathering. Contact the family or Spangler Mortuary in Mountain View for details.
