Obituary of Eudora Gee

Eudora Gee passed away on April 14, 2017, after years of suffering from dementia. Eudora wasthe loving wife of Henry W. Gee. During their long marriage of almost 63 years, Henry andEudora worked side by side in all of his businesses, from their grocery store in Albuquerque,NM to his eventual transition to a real estate broker, in both New Mexico and California. Henrysaid that Eudora had an innate business mind, and that it was she that kept him grounded when his ideas were too much "pie in the sky." Together they made a formidable team and built avery successful real estate business in downtown Mountain View.

Throughout their lives, Eudora and Henry were also very active in community service — thekeystone of both of their lives was to help others. Eudora had a keen ear for languages andunderstood and spoke many different dialects of Chinese. After learning English, Eudora wascalled on and often helped with translating on behalf of others in the Chinese Americancommunity. From a very young age, she would accompany parents to schools, go to doctor'sappointments, or do other things, acting as a translator for those that were not fluent in English.

Those that immigrated before China standardized to Mandarin as the national language spokemany different dialects, so translating was not an easy task. As she grew more proficient,Eudora would also help others to write letters, both in English and in Chinese. Her languageskills became particularly helpful to Henry in his real estate office, and later to their daughter,Nancy Gee, in her law practice. Both Henry and Nancy appreciated that Eudora couldcommunicate with clients in their native Chinese dialect. Neighboring businesses and medicalprofessionals in the community often also asked her to help with translating when needed.

Eudora Gee was very much a part of all of the organizations in which Henry Gee participated, including the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, Mountain View Chamber of Commerce,Mountain View Central Business Association, and Downtown Revitalization Committee, though she was not willing to take on the leadership roles as Henry did. She just did all thework without the title!

Eudora Gee is survived by her daughters, Nancy, Faline and Cindy, sons-in-law, Michael andKeith, and grandchildren, Reece, Keianne, Nikki, Elissa, and Michelle.
