Edward Verboonen Fabela
May 29, 1944 - October 1, 2026
Edward Verboonen Fabela, 82, of Santa Clara, California died, Thursday, October 1, 2026. Eddie had been facing many medical battles for the last six+ years and fought valiantly until the end.
Eddie is survived by his wife Antonia (Kimball) Fabela and children, Paul Fabela, and Monique Pickney. He was a grandfather of three, great grandfather of twelve, great great grandfather of three, "adoptive" father of two. Edward is survived by five siblings, Angel Fabela, Mary Ruth Guest, Priscilla Robertson, Alfred Fabela, and Louis Fabela in addition to countless nephews and nieces. Edward was preceded in death by his father, Juan Fabela and his mother, Maria Verboonen Fabela and ten siblings.
Eddie attended Balboa High School in San Francisco, was trained by the Army as an Electrical Lineman. Eddie had a diverse career that started with a paper route before moving into the food industry as a pizza maker, served in the Army, played on the taxi squad for the 49ers, and retired from PG&E after 30+ years of service first as a lineman then as a Foreman.
Eddie loved spending his days outdoors from childhood until his passing. Eddie loved sports, was a blackbelt in Karate, loved his home bay area teams, loved working in his garden, playing horseshoes, liars dice, and dominoes.
Eddie loved entertaining in and outside of his home with his wife Toni in addition to traveling/cruising. This was in addition to loving their unusual pets, wild and domestic throughout the years.
He loved entertaining in his 49er home patio bar to family, friends and neighbors, in addition to taking in visiting foreign students. He was known in the family as THE Tamale Guy and was The King of BBQ Sauce.
Eddie loved creating in various forms and several of us have benefitted from his birdhouses, woodworking and electrical skills.
Eddie loved spending time with the children and was known as Fa, FaFa, Grandpa/Uncle Eddie Spaghetti. He enjoyed teaching them to play sports, karate, horseshoes, dominoes and a few things that were questionable but fun for the kids!
