Obituary of Doris Riddell

Longtime Los Altos resident, Doris Jean Trimpe Riddell, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2016. She is survived by her three children, Baylor, Ellen and Paula, her two grandchildren, Ryan and Andrew, two great grandchildren, Bradley and Charlie, sister in law, Ingrid Trimpe, and three nieces, Joan Adam, Annie Trimpe, and Kaye Chavalas. Born in Peoria, Illinois, she graduated from Peoria High School in 1942. After attending Bradley University in Peoria for two years, she transferred to Indiana University Bloomington. There she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and graduated in 1946 with a degree in history. On September 8, 1951, she married Baylor G. Riddell, an officer in the United States Navy. She then moved to California and lived in some of the most beautiful coastal locations (La Jolla, Carmel by the Sea and San Mateo) while Baylor finished his naval duties. She then moved to Berkeley where she worked to put her husband through law school. After working for several years as an elementary school teacher in Menlo Park, she had three children. After 40 wonderful years, she lost Baylor too soon in 1991.
A lover of art, history, fashion, design, music and travel, Doris lived her life with courage, strength, beauty, wit, class and style. Doris was a benefactor and tireless volunteer for the organizations she supported: Kainos Home and Training Center in Redwood City, the Community Association for the Retarded (now Abilities United) in Palo Alto, New Beginnings of Los Altos and Mountain View, and the San Francisco Symphony.
Doris was laid to rest at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto, California, the morning of September 2, 2016, surrounded by family and dear friends. She will be forever loved and missed.
