Delbert Harry
Beumer
May 17, 2017
If Delbert Harry Beumer, RADM SC USN (Ret.), showed us one thing (and he showed us so many things) it was to love unselfishly.
Del was born in the Hoosier State of Indiana in 1931, the second youngest of eight. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Holland, IN and graduated with an MBA from University of Washington, where he met and married his sweetheart Marlene Hill. He worked at Dean Witter (now Morgan Stanley) for 39 years and served for 34 years on numerous ships in the Navy Supply Corps, retiring with the rank of Rear Admiral in 1989. In addition to his deep devotion to God and country, Del valued family. He and his beloved Marlene raised four children, Judi, Jeff, Jeanine, and Kimberly in the Los Altos home they spent 47 years restoring together. He was close to his seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He taught us to not sweat the small stuff, always have dessert, enjoy the sunshine, travel, work hard, and do what's right no matter the effort. He was a generous champion for others, especially friends and family. We'll miss seeing him working in the yard, telling a good joke, making waffles and pomegranate juice, his big smile, and his even bigger heart.
He loved. And was so loved. He passed last week surrounded by four generations of family who cherished him.
Del is survived by two sisters, Dotty and Garneta, his wife, Marlene, his descendants and their families: children Judi & Dave, Jeff & Larry, Jeanine & Phil, and Kimberly (predeceased), grandchildren Dan & Brynn, Matt & Michelle, Chris & Kirsten, Mollie & Beamer, Amy & Charles, Jim & Meghann, and Delbert Alexander, and great-grandchildren Madelyn, Sophie, Mackenzie, Race, and Charlie Ann, and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Del's name to Parkinson's Institute in Sunnyvale or Morgan Autism Center in San Jose. Del will have a military burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and a celebration of his life will be held at Shoup Park on August 12th at 2pm. Please contact the family to RSVP.
