David Alan Griffy
Sunnyvale CA
79 Years Old
David Alan Griffy — husband, father, grandpoppie and uncle — passed away at home March 17, 2026, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, he was the youngest of Mamie Ruark Griffy and Elbridge Griffy II's three children. He had a good life that included marriage, children and a rewarding career.
David graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1970. After working as an electrical contractor in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, he moved to the Bay Area in 1985. He retired in 2004 as President of Dynalectric's San Francisco office. He served on the advisory board of the South of Mission Employment Center in San Francisco and the board of directors of Via Services in San Jose, a nonprofit supporting people with special needs. David was a Mason since 1961, obtaining a rank of 32°.
He loved all things trains, particularly Southern Pacific. David was a member of Silicon Valley Lines Model Railroad Club and tinkered endlessly on a layout in his garage. He read about history voraciously and was a knowledgeable travel companion to his wife. He was a fan of Oklahoma Sooners football, the San Francisco Giants and the San Jose Sharks.
David was preceded in death by his siblings. His wife, Kay Gaines Griffy, daughters Mamie Virginia Barrow (Joe), Leslie Anne Griffy and Galina Alexis Griffy survive him. He was loving grandpoppie to Claire, Ian and Nate Barrow, and Henry Akerson, as well as uncle to Skip, Bryne, Jim and Henry Griffy.
