Ching-Ling (Jim)
Tseng
December 3, 1934 – November 20, 2025
Ching-Ling (Jim) Tseng was born in Hangzhou, China, according to official records on December 3, 1934, to Grand Justice Tseng Shao-Hsuen (Shau-Shun) and Mrs Hsieh Yun Ying. He spent much of his childhood in Chongqing and later Taipei.
His education spanned electrical engineering and statistics from National Taiwan University to the University of Missouri, to San Jose State (where he studied as well as taught statistics), and to Stanford. He had a successful career in Silicon Valley during the heady days of Fairchild Semiconductor in the 1960's and later at Hewlett-Packard.
He married Helen (née Wu) in August 1960, in New York City, and had two sons, Daniel and Jeff. In the 1970's, he designed and built the family home on what had been an empty hillside in Los Altos Hills, and it became the family base for over forty years.
He passed away on November 20, 2025, and is survived by Helen, Daniel (Angie), Jeff (Carmen), grandson Kevin, brothers Chie-sun (Gloria) and Gan-tai (Joan), and numerous nieces and nephews.
